CARE AND PREPARATION – ORCHIDS (DENDROBIUM & CYMBIDIUM)
DIY Bulk Flower Guide

Dendrobium and cymbidium orchids are durable tropical flowers that require minimal preparation. Please follow these simple steps upon receiving your flowers:

  1. Unpack immediately. Remove the flowers from the box as soon as they arrive. Orchid stems are typically shipped with a small water capsule attached to the base.
  2. Remove the water capsule. Carefully remove the capsule before placing the stems in water.
  3. Prepare clean water. Fill a clean vase or container with fresh water. Add floral food and stir until fully dissolved.
  4. Trim the stems. Cut approximately 1–2 inches off the stem at an angle using sharp floral shears or a sharp knife.
  5. Place in water immediately. Orchids hydrate quickly and should be placed in water as soon as the stems are cut.
  6. Minimal cleaning required. Orchid stems generally have little to no foliage, making preparation easier than many other cut flowers.
  7. Store in a cool location. Keep flowers in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  8. Daily care. Change the water regularly and re-cut stems as needed to maintain freshness.
