CARE AND PREPARATION – GERBERA (ALL VARIETIES)

DIY Bulk Flower Guide

Gerbera daisies (including standard, mini, and gerpoms) are delicate flowers known for their vibrant colors and large blooms. Proper handling is important to keep stems straight and flowers fresh.

  1. Unpack carefully. Gerbera arrive in a protective cardboard tray with each stem secured individually. Gently remove each flower to avoid bending or damaging the stems.
  2. Remove packaging. Take off all sleeves and packaging materials before processing.
  3. Prepare clean water. Fill a clean bucket or vase with fresh water and add floral food—this is important for gerbera longevity.
  4. Trim stems. Cut 1 inch off the stems at an angle using a sharp knife or shears.
  5. Use shallow water. Place stems in only a small amount of water (1–2 inches), as gerbera stems are soft and can rot in deep water.
  6. Support the stems. Gerbera are naturally prone to bending or curving. For best results, use gerbera straws to help keep stems straight (sold separately).
  7. Alternative support. If stems are too thick for straws, a thin floral wire can be used to provide support.
  8. Hydrate properly. Keep in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  9. Maintenance. Change water daily if possible and re-cut stems every few days to maintain freshness.
